Setting a Good Corner
In January of 2020, I was frustrated that my femme presenting colleagues were getting overlooked and under-appreciated within the art handling field. I had a sharp awareness that though there were few female identifying art handlers or preparatory there were even less people of color. I proposed to the Chicago gallery, Flatland, a month-long exhibition that involved training six female identifying, diverse artists how to install walls, patch, paint, and install wall hanging work. These women were trained by myself and two other female identifying art installers how to use a drill, install drywall, and best practices for safety and efficiency. Those who participated in the project left with contacts, references for applications, and documented experience to pursue jobs in the field with greater success.
